Jens Jefsen Trio & Quartet |
Melodic and energetic jazz music composed by Jens Jefsen and Uffe Steen
Uffe Steen - Jens Jefsen - Jukkis Uotila
w. guest soloist Dave Wilczewski |
The trio originated from Jens Jefsen's co-operation with guitarist Uffe Steen starting in 1975, when the group Chameleon was formed. During the time this band existed, the two musicians established a musical intimacy, which has developed into an almost telepathic interplay. Their numerous concerts together are proof that these two fine musicians have something special going on.
In 1987 drummer Alex Riel joined the trio, colouring Steen and Jefsens compositions with his intuitive and reflective playing.
Since the trio's inception guest soloists tenorsax player Bob Rockwell, pianist Thomas Clausen, marimba player Dave Samuels and drummer Adam Nussbaum have performed concerts and recorded with the trio.
In August 1998 Kiss My Jazz, a live recording from Copenhagen Jazzhouse, was released. This CD received fine reviews and an award from the National Council of the Arts for its high artistic quality. It is the trio's only live recording and is a good example of their present prowess.
In march 2002 the CD BeJazzled featuring saxophone player Dave Wilczewski was released. Like all previous CDs this CD also got very fine reviews
New drummer in the trio is Jukkis Uotila from Finland.

Jefsen / Kammerer Quartet
(Get photo here)
Lineup:
Jens Jefsen bas, Stephan Kammerer sax,
John Chin piano, Marc Ayza drums.
A True MySpace story.
The idea for this band came when the New York based saxophonist and composer Stephan Kammerer contacted the Danish bassist and composer Jens Jefsen through Myspace.
Stephan and Jens are related, but had till that day only heard of each other (Jens is Stephan's mothers cousin).
Soon plans where made to meet in a quartet. Along with Stephan from the US comes pianist John Chin. And from Spain comes drummer Marc Ayza.
Stephan Kammerer has toured with Maynard Ferguson Big Bob Nuoveau and The Artie Shaw Orchestra. He currently leads his own Quartet in New York featuring John Chin on Piano, Matt Clohesy on bass and Mark Ferber on drums. This group recently performed at Jazz at The Lincoln Center. He currently has a CD out called Krackedlenz Project. He has performed with Antonio Sanchez, Lionel Loueke, Ingrid Jensen, David “Fathead” Newman, Jon Hendix, Benny Green and many more.
Jens Jefsen belongs to the elite of the Danish bass players and has through many years gained recognition for his lyrical and responsive playing. He has played with many american artists like Dexter Gordon, Johnny Griffin, Ben Webster, Dizzy Gillespie, Roy Eldridge. You can read more about Jens Jefsen here
John Chin is an up and coming artist who’s new release Blackout Conception is being highly lauded by critics. One critic wrote “Chin charts a bright course with Blackout Conception that augurs well for the future”. Blackout Conception features Mark Turner
on tenor sax, Billy Campbell on drums and Chris Higgins on bass. John is very busy on the scene in New York and can be heard with artists such as Dan Rieser, Chris Cheek, Donny McCaslin or as sideman with Irwin Mayfield and Sue Giles.
Marc Ayza accomplishes a task that many have attempted with uneven results: artfully combining jazz and hip hop. The two idioms have had countless encounters, sometimes subtly cross-pollinating ideas. Ayza gigs very well on both sides of the street.
The Spain-based drummer/composer's dexterous traps have been heard in performances with jazz names such as Jason Lindner, Claudia Acuna, Mulgrew Miller and Giulia Valle as well as involvement in Spain's hip hop music scene and New York rap artist Core Rhythm. From Jeff "Tain" Watts-like dynamics to the backbeats of The Roots' drummer "?uestlove," Ayza can deliver a variety of rhythms.
Ayza succeeds in showing the continuity between both hip hop and jazz.
